The Wishing Stone shone brightly. It was the first time mortal eyes had laid upon it in untold years. An eerie calm had filled the entire research area. A couple loose sheets of paper fluttered down to the floor. The soft rustle they made seemed to echo loudly in the hall. Even the giant wounded dragon against the far wall seemed small compared to the floating hourglass crystal. Light continued to sparkle deep inside the ancient elvish device as it waited. Morcant cautiously came closer. She took a quick glance at Fluke in the corner. But the dragon seemed too shocked, either by pain or the magic from the Wishing Stone. It just seemed to bleed power. The illusionist glided across the floor as her color of her silk robes began to shimmer to match that of the wondrous devices. A waterfall of rainbows now washed down Morcant’s back as she said in a hushed whisper. “We’ve done it. We’ve finally done it.” “Wishing Stone?” Fluke asked, confused. He wasn’t told what was in that orb, but he knew it had to be something of great power. Though, he had never dreamed as something so... world breaking. “Wishing, as in…” “As in it will grant wishes,” King Falcon strode forward. The older man’s salt and pepper hair was slightly disheveled from the chaos that had happened earlier. His gait was confident now, as all his hard work and sacrifice for the kingdom and his people had finally paid off. The cost in gold, time, men, his very morals. He could now bring his lands back to prosperity. He would go down as the greatest leader his people ever had. He knew that now. “You could…” Fluke was suddenly worried. If that… crystal thing could grant wishes? What sort of power did he give this King? Could he wish his enemies dead? Make himself invincible. I should... I should do something. Fluke thought to himself, but pain racked his arm. He remembered they still had his friends, they had Griffon. But.. “What do you plan on doing with this Wishing Stone?” Fluke tried to bring the authority back in his voice. And honestly? As a dragon authority came easily. “Rule the world?” “Not according to the legends,” King Falcon wasn’t even scared of the massive beast in the corner. His eyes were fixated on the glittering stone hovering in front of him. “It does nothing so grandiose as granting eternal life, or making one the most powerful sorcerer in the world.” “But what it can do, is make most anything,” Morcant finished the King’s explanation. “But we need to see if it is more than a simple fairy tale. It would truly be tragic if this was some bobble for an elvish lord’s child.” “Make your wish…” The Wishing Stone asked again in that ghost of a voice, as if asking for Morcant to provide a demonstration. “I wish for an apple,” she called out. She tried to keep her voice steady and calm for his historic occasion, but there was a slight twinge of excitement in her tone. Not that there were many here to witness the first wish besides her, four guards, the king, and a dumbstruck dragon. The Wishing Stone was silent for but a moment. Then the same unnatural voice reverberated once more. “Granted...” One of the tendrils came out from the Wishing Stone. It reached past the barrier and ran across one of the upturned desks. It almost seemed to caress the painted wood, before enveloping it. It absorbed nearly a third of the oak, before withdrawing. A large chunk of the furniture was now utterly erased from existence. After the tendril retreated back, it looped back in front of Morcant. Then it disappeared back into the Wishing Stone soundlessly. And there, right in front of the dark haired mage, was a perfect apple. Shiny red with flawless skin. It looked like it had been freshly plucked from a tree. Morcant moved forward and picked the fruit up. She sensed no magic in it. There did not appear to be any rot or even a blemish to the peel. She admired it for a long second before taking a small nibble. A bit risky, but they had come so far. Cool, crispy, juicy. It tasted as
