The rain is pouring, drumming relentlessly on the car's roof as a woman was driving. "Are you sure you needed that toy?" she teased, glancing at a young girl through the rearview mirror, her eyes twinkling. "I think you're running out of space for all your other toys, aren't you?" She chuckled softly A little girl mischievously laughs "this one is different, I promise!!" She says confidently with a bright and playful smile while rain drops raced eachother on the car's window "Eh? But its the same character though?" The woman asked with an eye brow raised while looking at the rearview mirror "whats the name again?" The girl leans in the middle of the front row seats so she can get closer to her mom "its XS6 mom!" She says with an innocently bright smile "Whatever you say" The rain continues to pour, harder and harder, the road seemed empty. "Did i bring the cloths inside?..." The woman mutters, as suddenly a bright light appears infront of them.... And then... ... ... "Ring! Ring! Ring!" The alarm clock rang loudly one morning, birds were chirping and loud cars is heard outside the window. "Nicole! You have school today. wake up!" The voice of my dad echoes from below "Ring! Ring! Ring!" The alarm clock continued to ring. "Hmm.." a hand soon reaches out to turn the alarm off. I opened my eyes, staring at the ceiling. Still half a sleep, i tried to sits up and begun stretching. "What day even is it today?..." I silently muttered, looking at the calendar beside my bed July 29th, monday "Oh yeah... Today's the first day of school..." I sighed loudly "Great." I scratched my head before standing up and yawning. I went down stairs, i could immediately smell the foul odor of alcohol as i walked closer to the kitchen "Morning dad." I said to my hung over dad "You're finally awake" my old man said while drinking a glass of water "Eat before the food gets cold. its on the table..." I sat down on a chair looking down at the food, it... was just a regular scrambled egg and hotdog with rice, it wasnt anything too fancy. As i started to eat, i realized that my dad wasnt eating... After afew bites, ive taken the courage and asked him, "What about you? Arent you gonna eat?" I asked him softly I saw my dad's expression change to a caring one as he looked at me "i just finished eating... Dont worry and just eat" he said reassuringly. "Alright..." I replied, ofcourse, i was worried about my old man, after all... He... Had been suffering alone for all this years... I tried to help and be there for him but he sometimes just reassured me that he was fine... Even when i know deep down that it was just a soft lie. After awhile, i finished eating my food. Putting the plates i used on the sink and i went back upstairs. i begun to get myself ready for school. While packing my things into my bag, my eyes drifted to my sketchbook and a few scattered art supplies. "Looks like I'll need new ones soon," I thought quietly, glancing at the shelf and desk cluttered with half-used sketchbooks and worn-down pencils. Most of them were things I'd bought myself, stuff I could afford with the money I earned running errands for the old lady across the street. A few, though... were gifts from my parents... I walked over to a worn-out Hello Cat coloring book tucked near the edge of the shelf. The pages were yellowing, the corners bent... but I still kept it. "Mom..." It was one of the last gifts she gave me before she.. Tsk. "There's no point in thinking about that. I'm late!" I shook the thought off, rushing to fix my hair and pull on my skirt and uniform. Once i got dressed up, i put my bag on my back and went down stairs. "Im going!" I yell out while walking towards the front door. "Alright, remember to look both ways when crossing!" Dad replied "I will" i said, going out. The streets were bustling, with loud horns in every corner, motorcycles cutting lanes, and a jeepney coming out of nowhere, it was chaotic but it was the city i grew up in. The train station was fai
