Summer, 6:55; Location: Theo’s Villa; Sizzle… "So, how was it?" Victor asked, looking up from the sizzling fish fillet under his spatula. Leo, who was cooking rice, looked at Victor, who was in his usual poetic mode, then at Theo, who was meticulously mixing what he assumed were chemicals and spices in a beaker with great concentration. The silence stretched, and finally, Leo asked, “Who are you asking?” "Hmm... it was for both of you," Victor said, flipping the fillet. "But you answered first, so you get to go first.” Leo sighed and took a single grain of rice from the boiling water, pressing on it to check if it was done. "One word: hectic." Hmm, it’s cooked. "I guess that's normal," Theo said. He passed the beaker to Noir, who sniffed at it. "We didn't realize what had happened while we were asleep." He looked at Noir. "Is this okay? Should I add some more terpenes or cinnamaldehyde?" Noir, who had been slowly inching Leo's phone toward the counter's edge, flinched. She paused as she looked up at Theo with an annoyed expression. Noir sniffed the beaker, mewed a few times, and shook her head as if disappointed in Theo. She then pressed a paw on the counter, and a bottle of pepper popped up. "Hmm, pepper?" Theo frowned. He didn't like pepper, but remembering how bland yesterday's dinner was, he relented and added some to the mixture. "Is her power something like space magic?" Leo asked, returning from the dining room. "Space? You haven't figured it out yet?" Victor looked at Leo with a surprised expression. "Uh, no? Is it not space?" Leo asked, bewildered, looking between Victor and Theo for an answer. "It's shadow," Theo said, stirring the mixture. "Something totally outside my understanding." "What? Shadow?" Leo was absolutely baffled. He was about to ask for confirmation when he felt something. He looked down just in time to see a paw emerge from his shadow and scratch his ankle. “See?” Theo shrugged, taking a pan from the rack. He put some oil and salt in it and set it on the induction to heat up. Leo looked at the scratch on his ankle and at the culprit, sitting on the counter, looking at him with a taunting grin. He sighed and asked, "What about you guys?" “Same… But it seems my mom was more worried about Noir than me…” Victor replied with a strange expression on his face. “Same, here. My mom just got hurt from a window breaking, but it’s nothing serious…” Theo replied as he put the potatoes cut by Leo in the pan. “Oi, cut it evenly…” “The potato is not even; how do you expect me to cut it evenly?” Leo retorted. “Just use your brain,” Theo sighed. “Just peel the potatoes and leave them. I will cut it. cut the tomatoes and onions instead.” “Fuck you!” Leo said, giving him a middle finger as he went to the refrigerator for the tomatoes. "Meow!" "Now that I think about it," Victor wondered out loud as he put the fish fillet on a plate, "she said there were all kinds of natural disasters happening at once, with the day and night constantly changing." “Yeah, and it was apparently global,” Leo said, handing Theo a bowl of cut tomatoes. “I really wonder how that's even possible.” “Rather than ‘how,’ I wonder what its significance is and if it’s connected to us,” Theo said, a serious expression on his face. “And if it is, then why is something like this even happening?” He opened the lid and put the spice mixture into the pan with the fried potatoes, onions, and tomatoes. “First time I’ve heard you ask ‘why’ before ‘how’,” Leo said, washing his hands with a surprised expression. “I’m pretty sure this is related to us in some way,” Theo said, his eyes unfocused as he stared into the distance. But Leo and Victor didn’t mind as they knew he was just looking at the status screen. “I guess it has something to do with our titles or authorities.” “Oh, you have a good point there,” Victor said with a smile. “The energy inside our bodies is different. Leo’s thermal scan shows heat, and mine shows black. My body temperature is cold, too.
