In a city drowning in fire and silence, the Black does not simply kill. It waits. It watches. It feeds. When the revolution collapses and the streets of Bentiu run red, a group of children are left to navigate a world that has already decided their fate. Among them is a boy who still believes light can exist in a place that has forgotten the meaning of the word. Beside him walks a boy who has already looked into the abyss and accepted what stares back. Between them stands a girl whose strength is measured not in power, but in how much of herself she is willing to bury to keep the others breathing. As the city burns and the powerful rewrite morality in their own image, these children must confront a force older and hungrier than any war: the quiet, patient darkness that lives in every choice, every sacrifice, and every soul that refuses to look away. Some will try to carry the weight. Some will try to outrun it. Some will try to become it. And somewhere in the ruins, the Black is still listening.

Jonas is weak, dying; his body ravaged by a micro-organism, created by his own half-brother Braph, that attacks the very essence of his powers of legendary strength and speed. Luckily, he's in love with a healer. But Llew's powers only go so far. She can't fix this. Llew still wants to free the Aenuks kept in Turhmos's cages, but she needs a full-strength Jonas by her side to do it. To save Jonas's life, they must reach the tree that shares a soul with their unborn child before Jonas becomes so weak he lacks the energy to breathe. But Braph is already there, keen to access the most power the world has known. * Note: This is currently in first draft form. I'm working on a newer draft, in between work & kids, etc.

Once it was discovered, it was persecuted, hunted and eventually sent back to its eternal prison, now chained and locked away. Having experienced what it feels like to be under the sun for the brief time it was on the surface, the void continued to dream of that beautiful and bright world. Now with the chains weakened and eroded from the passage of time, it once again walks under the sun, longing to experience life in its entirety. Original cover art made by Kawacy
